Radium
Removal
Radium
is a naturally occurring radio-active contaminant found
in many parts of the Mid West in the USA. It is in the
same family as calcium and magnesium on the Periodic Table
and is removed by the same technique used to remove hardness…the
common water softener. Radium has a higher selectivity
than either Ca++ or Mg++ and therefore breaks through
later in the cycle than hardness. A properly sized an
operated softener is a very effective means of removing
radium from ground water. Salt is used as the regenerant
for the strong acid
resin.
Systematix
